Beef Price Breakdown
We are going to break down the price for beef.
Please know…. These numbers are all estimates. This is because the final pricing will come from the hanging weight of the beef.
The hanging weight is 65% of the live weight after the beef has been slaughtered and the guts, head, feet, and blood have been removed. The remaining muscle, bone, and some offal are what goes into the hanging weight.
A whole beef will hang around 700 pounds on average
THE BREAKDOWN
The whole beef is going to look something similar to this for pricing
$5.50 per pound hanging weight is how Tide Creek Farms sells our beef.
$180 The mobile butcher service
$25 Rendering disposal fee
$0.85 per pound hanging weight is what the Meating Place charges to cut & wrap the beef
THE MATH
700 pounds X $5.50 = $3850 (to TCF)
PLUS +
700 pounds x $0.85 = $595 (to butcher)
PLUS +
$180 mobile butcher
PLUS+
$25 Renderer
Equals =
$4650 Estimated total for a whole beef
$4650 Divided by 4 = $1162.50 estimated total for a 1/4 beef
What is the Cost Per Pound
The average amount of a whole beef is 400 pounds
This does not include the bones.
If we take the estimated total of $4650
Divide it by 400 pounds it equals $11.625
$11.63 per pound is what you’ll be paying if you purchase at a store.
The Real Cost of Meat at the Grocery Store
The US subsidized more than $38 BILLION dollars each year to the beef industry.
The top 4 meat packers in America profited $14 Billion dollars in 2022
These profits go to the meat packers, not the farmers or ranchers that spend the time to raise these animals.
If they were to charge the actual costs, it would cost $30 per pound of hamburger
Our tax dollars are being used to lower the price of beef in supermarkets artificially.
The Real Cost of Beef on Our Environment
Higher environmental restrictions and labor cost increases in the USA have pushed processors to set up their businesses in South America.
5 million acres of rainforest are felled every year in South and Central America alone to create cattle pasture
70% of deforestation in the Amazon has been linked to cattle pastures
In January 2022 alone, imports reached almost 100 million pounds—a more than 500% percent increase relative to the same month a year earlier
At Tide Ceek Farms we have 27 acres that we rotationally graze with our cows
We use our livestock to better our pastures so the land can be used sustainably for many years to come.
We live here too and want the best for our community and country.
We love our world and want to see the cattle industry choose a more sustainable path
