Glass Jar Policy

It’s very important that all jars are returned each week and in top-notch condition, for us to continue offering the glass jar option.

Jars

  • Each jar & lid combo requires a $5 deposit.

  • Each share (a ½ gallon) there will need to be 2 jars reserved.  Then we simply swap jars back and forth each week.

Name Tags

  • A name tag for each jar is secured with a rubber band around the neck.

  • When you return the jar, place the name tag on the jar.

  • If the rubber band breaks or the tag gets damaged, put it inside the jar and it will be replaced

  • If you forget to put your name tag, use the permanent marker available to write your name on the 3x5 card and place in the jar.

  • Bring back the tags so we can reuse them.

  • At pick up the jars are checked back into our system so we know who has returned them and who is still missing.

  • If your jar is missing your order will simply be filled in our plastic recyclable milk jugs until the jar is returned.

I understand that it’s hard to always return the jars. Life gets busy.  That’s why I offer plastic recyclable jugs.  If you wish to no longer use the glass jars, text me. When your jars are returned a refund will be issued back., then you will be switched over to plastic full-time.  There is no fee for the plastic jugs

Returning your jar is only ½ of the expectations.  The jars must be returned CLEAN & DRY without any odors.

Over the years I have seen a lot when it comes to the condition of returned jars.  There have even been jars that I’ve thrown away because they had mold, paint, & even glitter in them.

I’m going to be 100% honest with you.  I would prefer everyone to use plastic for convenience reasons, but I understand why folks prefer glass jars.

If you choose to use the glass jar option there is a high standard required of you.

If your returned jar has

  • bugs

  • paint

  • old milk

  • standing water

  • bad odors

  • fermented smells ie pickles

  • mold

  • or anything that requires we spend extra time cleaning before sanitizing the jars

There will be a $5 cleaning fee per jar.

A step-by-step plan for clean jars

  1. When you are done with the jar, rinse it & the lid right away with lukewarm water. (Do not use hot or cold water as this will cause the fat to smear.)

  2. Next, use HOT soapy water and wash the jar.  You can also put it in your dishwasher. Make sure the date and any spilled milk has been wiped off on the outside of the jars, especially around the rings for the lid. Wipe the inside of the lid and clean out the grooves.

  3. Rinse with COLD water

  4. Place the jar to dry where there is some airflow. You can also use a towel and dry it by hand.  Make sure it is completely dry. Any standing water will cause bacteria to grow and produce a foul odor.

  5. When you put your lid on the jar screw it down to where it will latch but leave it loose so air can continue to flow.  This will also prevent bacteria from growing and producing odd odors.

  6. Place your name tag around the jar and return it when you pick up your milk the next time.

  7. I will then take the jars and sanitize them before they are filled with fresh raw milk.

What to do if the jar breaks?

Sometimes the jars will get nicks, cracks, and even break.

  • If you cause this please just let me know.  You can simply put a deposit on a new jar minus the $1 price of the lid if it’s still good

  • If you receive a jar that is damaged please text me a picture right away and I will replace the jar free of charge.

  • If you return a jar that's damaged I will reach out to you personally and see if you’d like to place a deposit on a new jar or not.

Thank you for understanding how important it is to return your jars and also to keep them clean. These jars are expensive and hard to come by.  Please help me keep them in top-notch condition so we can reuse them for the long term.
